School Avenue

School Avenue is unique because it is the only residential street in my constituency that's owned by the Province. All other residential streets in Halifax Fairview are owned by the Halifax Regional Municipality.

School Avenue is also unique because it is, according to officials of the Department of Transportation, closer to a 100-series highway than any other residential street in the Halifax region. As you can see from the photos on this page, School Avenue is directly beside the Bicentennial Highway. That has led to a number of problems for residents, including noise, fumes, garbage, jake brakes and until recently, an unsightly fence.

Furthermore, School Avenue is unusually narrow, which leads to problems with snow-clearing, parking, and excessive speed.

Over the years, residents have tried (without much success) to get improvements to their street.

As the MLA for School Avenue, I'm taking residents' concerns to the Province. At present my efforts are focussed on two goals: (a) seeing if there is enough interest for the formation of a School Avenue Residents' Association, and (b) working with residents to develop a priority list for improvements that we can take to the Province.

On this page, you will find links to my correspondence on School Avenue. I'll also post any significant news or updates, including the results of my survey of School Avenue residents.
