Work is currently being carried out on the Joseph Howe Drive overpass to rehabilitate the concrete retaining walls. The work is taking place where the highway goes over Abbott Drive area. Structural steel bearing work is expected to be completed in June.
After falling concrete was reported in 2009, $300,000 worth of rehabilitation was done to address the loose concrete. The work has included replacement of brifge bearing assemblies, structural steel, replacement of deck joints, and traffic barriers. There will also be new lighting.
Last night the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal emailed me information about measures it is taking to stop crumbling concrete on the Joseph Howe Overpass from falling to the street below. The department is also inspecting the overpass and will plan repairs for the coming months. Click here to read the email.
Today I faxed a letter to the Minister of Transportaion about the condition of the overpass that goes above the area around Ashburn Drive. In it, I request information about any inspection reports and of any steps the Department plans to take to ensure the safety of residents. Click here to read the letter.
