Glades Lodge

The Glades Lodge is a long-term care facility (nursing home) on Alton Drive. It is 40 years old and is badly in need of renovation or renewal. Earlier this year, the Department of Health approved a new facility. On August 31, 2007, the Glade's owners announced that the Department has approved the construction of two new 62-bed facilities to replace the existing facility.

The two new facilities will be located on Admiral Street in Dartmouth, and on Pockwock Road in Hammonds Plains. They are expected to open in 2010.

It is not yet clear what will happen to the existing facility and land, when it is phased out in 2010. I have spoken with the Glades' administrator, who tells me that they expect soon to arrange a public information session for neighbouring residents.
